Physics and the Environment
In this main research area, experimental and theoretical research is conducted on those areas of physics that relate to the environment in a broad sense. The focus is on the formation and transformation of aerosol particles and their effects on health and the climate on the one hand, and on research at the Vienna Environmental Research Accelerator (VERA) on the other. In the latter field, measurement of long-lived radioisotopes by means of accelerator mass spectrometry plays an important role and can be applied in many areas.
